forum movement

I would just like to inform everyone concerned that we've set the deadline for forum
voting on Monday Oct. 24, 2007. If there's no other -1 votes, we'll process
the movement of forum by Tuesday. So far, we've got 11-3 votes in favor of
the movement.

Comments on Forum Movement

Just wanted to ask where i can cast my vote on the forum movement.

For whatever it's worth i would like to comment why i will be casting a NAY vote. This forum has a distinctively "Pinoy" feel and it is so easy to navigate around it. Would it still be the same with the vast ubuntuforums? Sure it has a powerful search facility, but how many newbies know that it's even there?

This forum did not have much movement because in the past, comments/replies that we post never appeared on the forum. I was so disappointed that i volunteered to become a forum admin just to keep things rolling. In the absence of any reply (sign of life)to my request, i eventually stopped visiting here. It is with great delight that now entries get posted right away and i'm sure traffic will increase in the future.

Please let's keep this forum as it is.

We will have our own special section there, possibly reached through a ph.ubuntuforums.org URL, so it will still be navigable. How many newbies know that the search facility is there? There's a prominent search box at the top of every page. They won't miss it. Or do you mean how many newbies know that ubuntuforums is there? It's listed as one of the primary sources of support.

This was sort of caused by two factors: lack of active membership, and lack of administrator resources (time, people). It's a vicious cycle. I'm hoping that moving to ubuntuforums solves those two problems (we will still have our own moderators there).

Anyway, ubuntu-ph.org, the website, isn't going anywhere soon. We will still have our own website, our own wiki, and our own planet (blog aggregator). So we'll still have much of the Pinoy feel. By the way, in our own subforum in ubuntuforums, we are very much free to speak Filipino there.

that is a good idea, retain this site, make this a news, blog, resource site and just make a button or link to philippine ubuntuforums.org just make sure the link is big not the small one up there (just my opinion). or just possible ph.ubuntuforums.org to move there if we will have a dedicated domain name and not ubuntuforums/2343/t455434/loco/forums.

i think these old forums is really unappealing if compared to regular forums, even free proboards do a better job. yeah like, no avatar, buttons B I U HTTP etc, but its okay that is why its moving right?

but anyway im still waiting for progress, since i can't advertise (signature, word of mouth) the forums as it is right now.

explanation on the delayed comments

The are 1 or 2 accounts created daily... they're mosty spam bots. And every day, we have to deal with dozens, sometimes up to 50 spam comments at a time. Unfortunately, due to these kinds of attacks, valid comments are sometimes overlooked. We apologize for that.

I've made users with 3-5 valid comments Contributors to this forum. Meaning, your comments don't have to go through the validation queue, that's why now, your comments are posted instantly.

As for the spam bots, I've been looking at the list of new users on a daily basis, checking out their usernames and email addresses. If the username doesn't make sense, and the email address has a .ru or .cn domain, I delete them.

e.g. Oxdhek29odkl p0rnqu33n@meadd.ru.

Again, we're being reactive 'coz right now, there's no countermeasures in place. There are plans to install Captcha, this way, we don't have to validate comments... Making it easier for both Admins and Contributors. But this will have to wait until we upgrade Drupal.
